A comparative study, emanating from a recent patent application, has documented that Nutri Pharma's soy composition Abacor is significantly more effective at lowering cholesterol compared to the best commercially available soy protein, according to the company. The recent randomized, double-blind study was conducted in Berlin, Germany in cooperation with the German Institute for Food Research. The study investigated the effects of Abacor, a patent pending composition of soy proteins and soy phospholipids, and the best commercially available soy protein on serum total, LDL and HDL cholesterol, triglycerides and apolipoprotein B. The trial proved Abacor is significantly more effective in lowering serum lipids, Nutri Pharma said. A recent Nutri Pharma patent covers the use of a soy composition in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Nutri Pharma was founded by Dr Lars Hoie and Trond Syvertsen in 1993. It was listed on the Oslo Stock exchange in May 2000, making it possible to invest more than $50 million during the last three years, a significant proportion of which has been spent on R&D and intellectual property.
